Our Vehicle ModificationProcess
At Ganly Allied Health, our Occupational Therapists take a person-centred approach to vehicle modifications, helping clients achieve safe, accessible and practical transport solutions that support independence and community participation.
The process begins with an initial assessment to understand the client’s functional abilities, mobility needs, driving requirements, vehicle use and goals. We consider factors such as transfers, seating, wheelchair or mobility device access, vehicle entry and exit, passenger requirements and the client’s ability to safely operate the vehicle.
Where appropriate, we may complete trials of different vehicle modifications or equipment to identify the most suitable solution. We work closely with vehicle modification specialists, suppliers, driving instructors and other relevant professionals to ensure recommendations are practical and compatible with the client’s vehicle.
Following assessment and trials, the OT prepares the necessary clinical documentation and recommendations to support funding applications and approval. Once approved, we liaise with the relevant stakeholders and vehicle modifier throughout the installation process.
Our involvement can continue through final inspection and review to ensure the completed modifications meet the client’s functional needs and are safe, appropriate and effective in supporting their independence.
